Investing in Life Skills
What should a child be able to do before he or she reaches elementary school? This argument is different on a country, culture and even family expectation bases. Sometimes the concentration is centered on reading and memorization, such as learning the letters of the alphabet. Sometimes there is more emphasis on basic math and science, like learning how to count to 10. Although these are all important subjects in molding a child’s mind, developing life skills is often overlooked.
What does it mean to develop life skills? The abbreviated answer is allowing children to be prepared in school and life by developing vocabulary, cognitive and social skills. Danielle Ewen from The Huffington Post wrote a column on how early childhood education can benefit the United States by seeing a return on its investment. While economists, educational research institutes and organizations worldwide agree that there should be more emphasis on quality early childhood education, it needs to be demanded by parents.
Parents do have a choice when it comes to early childhood education, but there aren’t many programs that develop life skills like FasTracKids can.
