Developing leadership skills in young children is one of the most important educational outcomes that all FasTracKids programs achieve. One way to develop leadership is through the cultivation of confidence.

Confidence is the foundation, and if you want to be a strong leader then you must pour a foundation of stone.

For many parents, enrolling their child into pre-school programs for the first time can be a nerve-racking experience.  Questions of “Will my child be too shy to make friends?” or “Will my child want to share their ideas?”  can weigh heavily on parents minds during this stage.  More often than not, parents have their fears replaced with relief after their child has attended a FasTracKids program.  New York City mother Aisha saw her 3-year-old son, Lynson, gain confidence after every lesson:

“Prior to my child attending FasTracKids, I was anxious about him attending pre-school and placing him in a classroom environment. However, since enrolling in FasTracKids, Lynson is eager to learn, enjoys working with other students and gets excited when discussing his lessons. FasTracKids provides not only academic, but social enrichment which will help my son excel inside and outside the classroom.”

Confidence is a necessary leadership skill for children to develop and use throughout their academic, professional and social lives.  The advantage of having this skill is demonstrated when a child is eager to share their ideas, or is enthusiastic about solving a problem independently.  Confident children are often comfortable with teaching a friend what they know.  Confidence can carry a child to many positive outcomes in their life and have a great impact on those around them.  A viral phenomenon, Kid President offers a perfect example of how one child’s confidence and ideas can make a lasting impression:

Kid President didn’t get to the “most powerful office in the world” and become such a positive force without a little help along the way.  He had help from the adults in his life.  Research shows that children’s confidence levels will increase after every positive interaction they experience with adults, especially with their parents.  By allowing a child to speak their mind, encouraging their curiosity and supporting their decisions, parents can create a very confident life-long learner.
