Promoting Creativity
What is the first thought that comes to mind when looking at a blanket? An adult can look at a blanket and see it as a way to keep warm. A child can look at that same blanket and see a cape for a super hero, a ceiling for a fortress or material to make fairy wings. There is very little that can compare to the imagination of a child.
Fostering a child’s creativity during the early years provides a solid foundation for skills needed during the school years. The National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families talks about children using creativity through art.
FasTracKids centers will focus on one of the five C’s (creativity) during the months of July and August. Children who are enrolled in FasTracKids will express themselves by creating sculptures, music, and costumes. They will also be introduced to masters of fine art such as Salvador Dali and Picasso. Children are engaged with innovative and thought provoking activities that challenge and inspire at the same time.
July and August may be the months for children to express themselves creatively at FTK, but let’s make sure we encourage them to still see a blanket as something much more, year-round.
